WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HOMELESSNESS?
Drugs are not always the cause, there are many reasons why and how people become homeless:
FAMILY BREAKDOWN
Majority of Relationship breakdowns are caused from a young age, this is due to their relationship with their parents.
Around 6 in 10 homeless say they left their houses due to arguments, being told to leave or failure in the relationship [Centerpoint]. |
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
Often everyone faces problems, however homeless people face many complex issues. Facing substance abuse and alongside having depression and anxiety.
Often this is caused by years of neglect, neglect due to either self or against the normal authoritarian approach to their care. |
LEAVING CARE
They often have little choice but to deal with the challenges and responsibilities of living independently at a young age. Traumas faced in their early lives make care leavers some of the most vulnerable young people in our communities.

REFUGEES
Thousands of refugees have arrived into the U.K over the last few years; due to fleeing the conflict in their countries. Majority being families, after being granted asylum having limited funds or lacking expertise. Running a household becomes difficult.
|
EXCLUSION FROM SCHOOL
Often not being in education can make it much more difficult for young people to access help with problems at home or health problems. Missing out on formal education can also make it more difficult for them to move into work.
|
GANG CRIME
Homeless people are often affected by gang-related problems. In some cases, it becomes too dangerous to stay in their local area meaning they can end up homeless, moving from area to area.
